It's time to simplifying what we take in to reset and refresh for the coming season!
If you have a juicer, this will be a cinch. If you don't you can certainly buy fresh juices, hit up your local juice bar, or put in a little elbow grease to squeeze your lemons and ginger. And yes, you can make your own ginger juice without a juicer! Scrub and grate your ginger then squeeze it all through some cheesecloth. Take this all at your own pace, and that includes the recipe prep!
You're going to need:
Gallon of water
4 lemons - 1/2 C fresh juice
Large knob of fresh ginger, or bottled organic ginger juice - 1/2 C fresh juice
Fire Cider - 1 C
*optional 1/2 C maple syrup to sweeten
You can also mix it by the glass as you go, but remember that you'll need to drink at least 6(10 oz) glasses throughout the day.
1/2 TBS lemon juice
1/2 TBS ginger juice
1 TBS Fire Cider
Flavor ad-in options (per glass)
a pinch of cayenne pepper
a couple bruised mint leaves
a few bruised lavender blossoms
a few slices of strawberry, pineapple or cucumber
1-2 muddled blackberries, blueberries or raspberries
You can mix everything the night before and give the flavors some time to meld, or you can toss it together just before starting to sip your first glass! Prep time is all up to you.
It's also a good idea to give yourself a bit of a runway to start preparing for Cleanse day.
1) Today and tomorrow cut down on or avoid animal products, processed sugar and sweeteners, high carb and processed foods.
2)It's also a good idea to make sure you're properly hydrating yourself in the run-up. Remember that two morning coffees, a diet fruit drink at lunch and a glass of wine after dinner just doesn't cut it. Your body needs about a half-gallon of water per day.
3)If caffeine is a must you can switch to a glass of low-acid cold brew or a caffeinated green tea for the day.
4)Fill in with more fresh fruits and veggies, and unsalted nuts, your body will thank you!
5)And don't stress if you feel a real need to chew on something! Grab a handful of nuts or berries to help get you through.
