With picnic and outdoor party season just around the corner, we're exploring drinks combining the refreshing zing of our tangy tonics with bright summer flavors! Since Orange is our ingredient of the month for May we thought we'd combine it with some Fire Cider Original, a hint of rosemary, lemon and a bit of bubbles for a beverage that can be sipped all summer long.
If you don’t do the boozy thing, just skip the vodka in this recipe and use the shrub syrup to make yummy homemade soda!
Start by making your shrub, then it's an easy drink to assemble.
enough for about 12 cocktails
3/4 c fresh squeezed orange juice
1/4 c fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 cup sugar
1 cup Fire Cider
2 medium sprigs of fresh rosemary, bruised
You will also need vodka and seltzer or club soda.
In a small pan over medium-low heat, combine all of the ingredients except for the Fire Cider*. Cook, stirring constantly until sugar has dissolved. Strain into a heat-safe glass jar, and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Mix in your Fire Cider, then store in your fridge for up to 1 week.
To make your drinks, fill a tall glass with ice, and add 1/4 cup of the shrub, 1 ounce vodka. Give it a good stir (or shake) and top off with the seltzer. Serve with a wedge of orange and a fresh sprig of rosemary.
*We recommend adding Fire Cider after the rest of the mixture is cooled so you can preserve the living "mother" in our vinegar.
